Infogroup’s ORC International Announces Launch of New FDA & Regulatory Research Practice

Infogroup’s ORC International today announced the launch of its new FDA and Regulatory practice, to be headed by Chief Research Officer Dr. Morris S. Whitcup. The practice, to be part of ORC International’s Healthcare and Pharmaceutical research division, will focus on FDA-related consumer and physician comprehension issues, Rx to OTC switches and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS). Dr. Whitcup brings thirty years of experience in healthcare and pharmaceutical research to the role. He has authored numerous articles which have been published in industry journals as well as by units of the federal government.

“As an increasing array of Rx and OTC medical devices are directed at consumer/patient use, issues such as REMS and Rx to OTC switches are of increasing importance for both pharmaceuticals and medical devices,” Dr. Whitcup said. “ORC International’s new FDA and Regulatory practice will help manufacturers meet FDA requirements for proper communication of product use, warnings and risks.”

Dr. Whitcup further noted that recent ORC International studies indicate consumers are often unaware of medication and device warnings and risks. “Better patient communication and education is vital to protect U.S. consumers, as over 1.3 million people are injured in the U.S. per year due to medication errors alone, costing the economy over $30 billion dollars and accounting for 3% of all hospitalizations. Manufacturers will need to make significant adjustments to the way in which they communicate in order to help stem these rising costs,” Whitcup said.
