The first OPTIMAGS TDS Coating Plant for a leading German pharmaceutical company was installed in 1995. Several European, Asian and American pharmaceutical companies have since decided on our high-speed, ultra-precise patch production, modular coating machine with our special knife coater.

OPTIMAGS COMPLETE PATCH PRODUCTION FACILITIES OPTIMAGS supplies complete production facilities for patches and oral strips. Facilities are available in various sizes. They are all custom tailored, but have in common: All systems designed and built acc. to European GMP and safety standards No heavy static necessary, the complete facility may be erected in a standard office building PC-controlled depots for raw materials and intermediate or finished products PC-controlled medical and adhesive mixing vessels, or complete stations OPTIMAGS TDS coating machine PLC-controlled punch and packaging machine Quality control laboratory The facilities may be for: First stage laboratory production (output up to 3 million patches or 10 million oral strips p.a.) Small scale, semi automatic production (output up to 50 million patches or 200 million oral strips p.a.) Large scale, fully automatic units (output up to 400 million patches or 1,600 million oral strips p.a.)
OPTIMAGS TDS MODULAR COATING MACHINES The machines consist of following modules: PC-controlled, fibre optically adjusted coating knife (the "heart and the brain" of the machine) Unwinder and rewinder station Dryer, modularly arranged with up to eight zones.
OPTIMAGS KNIFE COATER TECHNOLOGY The OPTIMAGS Coater is an intelligent combination of a cast and a die coater. Its construction allows for extreme accuracy across and along the coat, typically better than 1% at 100g/m² for an adhesive coat. In addition to this, the following advantages are also noteworthy: Direct and sensitive coating adjustment via PC and fibre optic control of the wet thickness immediately after the coating head Additional dry thickness profiling sensor as master control at the dryer exit Small size, simple construction and low weight enable fast and easy replacement of coater in case of product changes Only the coating knife is in contact with the coating solution Fully automatic and recipe controlled production possible
OPTIMAGS COATING MACHINE FOR THE LABORATORY TABLE The MBCD 1.3 coating machine for the laboratory table permits continuous coating of 150 mm wide webs including lamination. The machine is built in a balcony manner. The winder shafts, web guiding items, coater, one-zone dryer cabin and rewinder are mounted on the front of a mounting plate. The desired fluid is usually spreaded onto the passing – by web by the OPTIMAGS coating knife. Alternatively the coating machine can be equipped with a simple doctor's blade. After the passage of the coating station, the web is slid across a heating plate, which heats the web up to temperatures of 110°C from below. The evaporating solvents are sucked away. The web may be laminated with a covering foil immediately after the dryer.

TDS Patches and Oral strips

Since 1995 OPTIMAGS delivers complete solutions for the pharmaceutical TDS-Coating-Plants. With our turn-key facilities markets in Europe, Asia and the USA has been established.

Now we extended our technology to deliver Oral-Strip-Plants. While TDS patches release their active ingredients through the skin, oral strips do this while melting on the tongue. This has some advantages:

no need of swallowing with which some people have difficulties.

no need of beverages

almost immediate onset of reaction to the released API

In contrast to the classical coating technology the knife coater of OPTIMAGS proved to provide the accuracy needed for the production of even low dosed therapeutic oral films.
