IDF Congress 2021

The IDF Congress is a core activity of the International Diabetes Federation, offering a global platform to discuss a broad range of diabetes issues, from latest scientific advances to cutting-edge information on education, diabetes care, advocacy and awareness. Participants include physicians, scientists, nurses, educators and other healthcare professionals, as well as government representatives, policy makers, people with diabetes, IDF members and media.

The IDF Congress is held every two years in a different location around the world. From its first congress held in Leiden, the Netherlands, in 1952 to the most recent congress in Busan in 2019, the number of participants has grown from a few hundred to over 12,000 delegates from 180 countries.
Important announcement concerning the IDF Congress 2021

The International Diabetes Federation has decided to postpone the IDF Congress 2021 scheduled to take place in Bangkok from 6-9 December. We have taken this decision in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, uncertainty with regard to international travel and a concern to keep our community safe. We remain committed to Thailand as a destination for our congress and will look for a suitable future date to host our community in Bangkok.

In its place, IDF will host a global online event on December 6-11, 2021. The IDF Virtual Congress 2021 will feature the latest research on diabetes complications, a stream dedicated to COVID-19 and diabetes, a session dedicated to the centenary of insulin and the launch of the IDF Diabetes Atlas 10th Edition. The next IDF Congress will take place in Lisbon on 5-8 December 2022.
