Attendees at this year's American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society's Annual Meeting in Savannah, Ga., will be the first to see Medline UNITE Foot & Ankle's new FORCECORD™ Midsubstance Achilles Repair System and DEXLOCK® Knotless Double Row Achilles Repair System.
According to the Clarivate 2025 Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Devices Market Insights report, more than 45,000 Achilles ruptures occur annually in the U.S. Approximately 40% of Achilles ruptures are treated non-operatively, and the remaining 60%, which account for about 27,000 operations annually, require surgical repair.
FORCECORD is constructed from a densely woven, tubular, synthetic, non-resorbable polyester. The implant features flat tapered ends and uses a specially designed probe for ease of passing. When combined with Medline UNITE's DEXLOCK® Knotless Suture Anchors, the system is intended to offer repair through a streamlined technique. Mechanical bench testing shows FORCECORD has 26% greater ultimate tensile strength and 18% greater pull-out strength compared to traditional 2mm suture tape1. The product is designed to accommodate quicker return to weight bearing as directed by a physician for patients post-operatively. In addition to FORCECORD, Medline's new DEXLOCK Achilles Kit is now available for surgeons using a double row knotless anchor construct for insertional Achilles repairs and Haglund's procedures.
"Medline UNITE continues to increase its focus on providing new technology to foot and ankle surgeons to help improve patient outcomes," said Scott Goldstein, vice president of product management for Medline UNITE. "The FORCECORD technology has more than 30 years of clinical history outside of the U.S. The introduction of this new surgical solution to the U.S. foot and ankle market, along with our new DEXLOCK Achilles Kits, complements other recently launched tendon and ligament repair products, including the FORCEWEB Synthetic Ligament Augmentation Implant launched by Medline UNITE earlier this year."
